Pairs is a simple press-your-luck card game with an unusual deck. The cards are numbered 1 to 10, with 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 and so on. Players take turns drawing cards, trying not to get a pair. It's fresh, fast, and fun!
Taught my parents this over Thanksgiving and even they picked up the press-your-luck thing by round two. Fifteen minutes a hand is about right, and the 1-10 deck makes it easy to explain to anyone.
We pulled this out at a bar with six people and the rounds flew by in about 15 minutes, which is perfect when you don't want a game that drags. The press-your-luck tension with the 1-to-10 cards keeps everyone leaning in, and even the two people who hate learning new rules picked it up in a minute.
We cracked this open at game night with six people and the press-your-luck tension got everyone yelling by the third round. The numbered 1-10 deck is such a clever twist and 15 minutes is the perfect length to play three or four times in a row.
